#35 BEING DIFFERENT
Please lead a discussion of these situations. Have your group members talk about what each of these things would feel like:
-
You are late to a party so you know that when you arrive everyone will be looking at you. As you step out of the car a truck splashes mud on the front of your clothes.
What do you do?
2. You are required to attend traffic school or face losing your driving privileges. There are no other courses
available before you must turn in your form to the judge. You discover that you are the only person of your
gender (male/female) in the room and the class will be taught to the opposite gender.
What do you do?
3. Imagine that you are the only student in a room full of teachers.
You must stay with them until you help set a new policy that will result in closed campus for lunch at your school. All the other students know that you are serving on this committee.
What do you do?
4. What do you think it would feel like to be the only gay person in a submarine that has just put out for six
months under the ocean?
What would you have to endure?

5. Name at least one time in your life when you felt really different.
How did it change you?

What did you learn from the experience that you can use?
